HealthSouth Announces Appointment of Chief Medical Officer

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.

HealthSouth Corporation (OTC Pink Sheets: HLSH) announced that Dexanne B. Clohan, MD, a board- certified Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation physician, has been named its Chief Medical Officer effective April 24, 2006. In this role, Dr. Clohan will be the primary clinical advocate within the company, and be responsible for the development and implementation of clinical and quality enhancement initiatives. Working with divisional physician leadership, Dr. Clohan will also coordinate the company's clinical research efforts, evaluate new technology, and investigate potential new clinical services. She will chair the company's Patient Safety & Quality Standards Committee and have management responsibility for quality reporting, credentialing, and research.

Prior to accepting this position, Dr. Clohan had experience as a Medical Director for several well-known organizations including Aetna, Inc., Meridian Health Care Management, and Memorial Independent Practice Association. In addition, she practiced medicine with Rehabilitation Associates Medical Group and served as Director of Congressional Affairs for the American Medical Association.

Dr. Clohan received her post-graduate medical education in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of California, Irvine; her Doctor of Medicine from The George Washington University School of Medicine; her Master of Science in Administration from George Washington University and her Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences from the University of Colorado. She was a Phi Beta Kappa and National Merit Scholar. Some of her past professional activities include serving on the American Academy of PM&R's Task Force on Medicare Inpatient Rehabilitation Criteria and on the Policy Advisory Panel to the JOINTS (Joint Replacement Outcomes in IRFs and Nursing Treatment Sites) Study. She has served on the AMA's Council on Ethical and Judicial Affairs and the California Medical Association's Council on Ethical Affairs and currently is an active member of the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
