HealthSouth Announces Appointment of Chief Development Officer as it Looks Toward Future Growth

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.

HealthSouth Corporation (OTC Pink Sheets: HLSH) announced that Cynthia T. Dotson has been named Senior Vice President and Chief Development Officer effective June 1, 2006. In this role, Ms. Dotson will be responsible for managing HealthSouth's development efforts across all divisions, including de-novo, acquisition, and partnership opportunities, as well as implementing the company's capital spending plan. Her duties will encompass the entire development spectrum from the identification of opportunities, the feasibility and pricing decisions, to the negotiation and closing of transactions.

Prior to accepting this position, Ms. Dotson worked with Capital Consulting, LLC, where she recently assisted HealthSouth on a consulting basis. She also served as Executive Vice President, and Chief Financial Officer of Medisphere Health Partners, a venture capital-backed, privately- owned alternate site healthcare facility company which she co-founded. In addition, she spent 20 years with Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) where she served in a variety of senior management roles in financial management and development within the company.

Ms. Dotson received her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from David Lipscomb University and her Masters of Business Administration from Vanderbilt University Owen Graduate School of Management.
