BIRMINGHAM, Ala., Aug. 9, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- HealthSouth (NYSE: HLS) is pleased to announce that its Chairman of the Board Jon F. Hanson has been named the recipient of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) B. Kenneth West Lifetime Achievement Award. 

The B. Kenneth West Lifetime Achievement Award is awarded for the full scope of the nominee's lifetime and board career. Nominees are evaluated on the areas of integrity, mature confidence, informed judgment and high performance standards.

HealthSouth's executive team and members of its board of directors nominated Hanson for the NACD award. Members of HealthSouth's board include: Edward A. Blechschmidt, John W. Chidsey, Donald L. Correll, Yvonne M. Curl, Charles M. Elson, Leo I. Higdon Jr., Dr. John E. Maupin Jr., L. Edward Shaw Jr. and HealthSouth President and CEO Jay Grinney.

The NACD will recognize Hanson at the NACD D100 Forum taking place in New York City on Nov. 8, 2011. More than 300 directors and governance thought leaders will gather to celebrate Hanson and this year's other honorees.

Hanson is the chairman and founder of The Hampshire Cos. and has more than 50 years of experience in the real estate industry. He was named non-executive chairman of the board of HealthSouth, effective Oct. 1, 2005, and continues to serve in this role today. From 1994 through 2005, Hanson served as chairman of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame, Inc., and today serves as chairman emeritus. For many years Hanson was the lead director of Prudential Financial Inc., where he had been a director since 1991.  Hanson currently serves as chairman of the board of Pascack Community Bank and as a director of Yankee Global Enterprises. In addition, he served for 21 years as a director, and now serves as an honorary director, of the Hackensack University Medical Center. He has also served as a director of CD&L, Inc., a full-service printing, fulfillment and packaging company.
