HealthSouth Corporation Acquires Adult Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit of CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital -- Medical Center

SAN ANTONIO and BIRMINGHAM, Ala., July 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- HealthSouth Corporation (NYSE: HLS) today announced it has completed the acquisition of the 36-bed inpatient adult rehabilitation unit of CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – Medical Center.  HealthSouth intends to relocate the unit into its existing 108-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital, HealthSouth Rehabilitation Institute of San Antonio (RIOSA).

"The acquisition will allow us to expand our high-quality and cost-effective inpatient rehabilitation services to more patients in the San Antonio community," said Frank Brown, president of HealthSouth's southwest region. "We look forward to working with CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Health System and other health care providers in San Antonio to provide a higher level of care to patients and their families."

In order to ensure there is no interruption to patient care, HealthSouth RIOSA will work with CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – Medical Center to coordinate the transfer of patients remaining in the inpatient adult rehabilitation unit. HealthSouth will also add hospital employees, as needed, to accommodate the additional patients. HealthSouth and CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Health System are working diligently to identify potential opportunities for current employees of the inpatient adult rehabilitation unit.

CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Health System will continue to operate the inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services associated with Children's Hospital, and will continue to operate the freestanding outpatient rehabilitation programs located in San Antonio and New Braunfels.
